Moments from the COPA LIBERTADORES..
In one weekend of The Beautiful Game, so much can happen. So much happiness, and so much heartbreak, depending who you side with. If you stand neutral, you are merely spoiled for choices.
This Weekend finally saw the Copa Libertadores finish, in Madrid. We also got to witness the MLS Cup, in Atlanta. Two finals we all look forward to seeing, with one having a dramatic build up, the other a great story beginning.
If I could take a couple moments from each game, it would be these:
Nahitan Nández, played one of the best balls I’ve ever seen. The Uruguayan played Darío Benedetto on a counter, and split two defenders, sending Benedetto into space. One on one with the goalkeeper. The finish was good. The celebration was better, but the pass was everything.
Next moment for me, was from the same match. The goal that gave River Plate the lead in extra time. The beautiful strike from Juan Fernando Quintero, was my favorite of this match. It was tough between the two, but when you see this goal, you’ll understand.
When Quintero came into the game, he came in with efficiency and class. 92% of his passes completed, 3 chances created, 1 goal and 1 assist. He also came on in the 53rd minute and finished with 63 touches. Almost a touch a minute for the Quintero, who was phenomenal.
The Beautiful Goal that was.
River Plater went on to dominate in extra time. Barrios second yellow card, to start extra time, proved to be to much for Boca to over come. The Final that seemingly never ended, finally ended. The drawing out over the last few weeks, made it feel like an eternity. Waiting on the second leg, was probably the most rewarding feeling. The fans in Madrid, were exceptional. The Santiago Bernabéu was rocking for both sets of fans. It’s very unfortunate the match couldn’t be played in Argentina, but the players gave us everything in Spain. Forever thankful for moments that make soccer what it is.
You matter, and thank you.
