At the start of this tournament, no one would have guessed Croatia would be in the Semi-Finals. Croatia fans might’ve believed, but the actuality was small. Based in a group with Argentina, Nigeria, and Iceland, Croatia had been drawn into one of the toughest groups at the World Cup. It’s opening match against Nigeria.

The Aerial presence of Kramarić and Mandžukić, is a force. Two clinical first touch strikers, give Croatia the ability to strike from open play and set pieces. Having the option of Modrić or Rakitić to send in set pieces, is a huge advantage. Luka Modrić could be considered player of the tournament. He’s been incredible in every match. His best match came against Argentina, in which he scored a beautiful goal.

Luka screamed “Banger”, and that’s all she wrote folks. Croatia locked in from the go. 2 wins in 2 matches, and both solid performances. Modrić and Rakitic being the best two standout players for Croatia. As you could see, Croatia has the momentum. Could they grind out victories with their back was against the wall? The next match was a proving point for Croatia.

There you have it, 3 wins in 3 games for mighty Croatia. Finishing top of their group, huge achievement. That’s not where this ends, but where it gets dramatic. Penalties.

A good way to get your heart to feel like it’s going to pump out your chest, watch your team partake in a penalty shoot out. Now my heart goes out to the Croatians, they had to endure this not only against Denmark in the Round of 16, but Russia in the Quarterfinals. I don’t know if I could take it!

First up is Denmark, after a 1-1 Draw.

Ivan Rakitić, cool as ice. Sinking Denmark with his last kick. Next up was the host nation Russia, no doubt an away match for Croatia. After drawing with Russia 2-2, it came down to yet another Penalty shootout.

What a roller coaster for Croatia, which is why they can stake a claim in the Final. They’ve had every type of victory, and not one loss. They’ve grinned out results, they’ve outplayed some of the best players in the world, they’ve showed stone cold nerve to finish off opponents late. They can produce goals from all over the pitch. The ability to control matches in midfield for Rakitić and Modrić, is a great advantage for Croatia. Ability to counter fast or build up slow, Croatia has proved to be a complete team. One thing they well need today though, from everyone, is that one true complete performance. Top to bottom. Croatia could very well play their best match today, or their worst. It won’t matter, they’ve played the hearts and asses off. They’ve gave us some to cheer about, some to yell about, some to scream about. I’m thankful a team like Croatia, that has made a run deep into this tournament. They show you to have hope, and believe. I’m pulling for Croatia, lets hope they do this.
